Instead of relying on a heated filament like a traditional thermionic tube, the cold-cathode design produces a cleaner, more consistent beam from the start. This uniform output means more of the radiation is effectively used to create the image, so the same diagnostic detail can be achieved at a lower mAs.
With less variation in the beam, there is no need to have a higher exposure to compensate for fluctuations. The result is reliable image quality with meaningful dose savings for patients, staff and bystanders.
At the heart of the Rover Plus is it's cold cathode x-ray tube. Weighing in at just 2.35kg, it drops the weight of the tube head to roughly 10% of a conventional system. Because the cart acts as a counterweight, most conventional systems tip the scales at 350kg, with some weighing as much as 500kg. The Rover Plus, on the other hand, weights just 105kg, meaning no motors are required and it can be pushed along smoothly without mechanical intervention.
The NEX carbon nanotube x-ray source in the Rover Plus is the culmination of over a decade of R&D. Micro-X have such confidence in their technology that it is backed by a 10 year warranty. With this warranty and a lack of a complex drive system, the Rover Plus is one of the most cost effective systems to both purchase and maintain, delivering significant savings over the system lifecycle, all whilst delivering performance to image patients of all sizes and any body part.
The 105kg, lightweight cart that can be pushed without the need for motors provides a natural, agile solution to portable imaging. The angled chassis allows the user to have improved visibility right down to floor level, reducing the risk of running over cables or patient lines in intensive care environments.
The system has automatic, electronic brakes which are applied as soon as the controls are released. Once at the bedside, the lightweight tube can be positioned smoothly in the desired orientation thanks to a carefully considered gas strut suspension system. Should the need arise, the cart can be repositioned from the tube head using the nudge buttons to release the brakes.
The Rover Plus may be lightweight, but has plenty of power for reliable performance day or night. The LiFePO4 battery pack provides 7 hours continuous use and enables true fast charging in just 90 minutes. Unlike motorised units, the battery life is not influenced by travel distances.
We all know that in busy departments, units can sometimes be left unplugged. Fortunately, the Rover Plus can be powered up and ready to use within just 30 seconds of being connected to AC power.
